About the material

Monkey head walnuts are generally thought to be a kind of black walnut. Their shells are dense and are carved into beads of different shapes: plump peach forms, small round tangerine forms, and shark-back forms with a raised ridge.

Monkey head changes colour faster than most materials. With regular handling the beads move from light brown toward a warm red-brown, and the carved ridges begin to shine.

After drilling, the shell can show darker oily marks in spots, lines or patches. This is normal for the material. Each listing gives the bead size and finish.
